Mount Raymond

I’ve been trying to get some mountain climbing in this summer. I did a night hike up Mount Olympus about a month ago, and hiked Mount Raymond last week. I haven’t hauled my camera up the mountains yet, but did get a few pictures with my new iPhone 3G S last week. My buddy Matt climbs all sorts of crazy ridges in the Wasatch. Someday I’ll join him on a more adventurous climb, but for now I’m opting for less danger. The Mount Raymond hike is about an 8 mile round trip from the Butler Fork trailhead with about 3100 feet of elevation. We started hiking at 7pm and made the summit just in time to enjoy the sunset around 9pm. We hung out for 20 minutes on the top, and then hiked back to the car in the dark, making it to the parking lot around 11pm. I definitely need a more powerful headlamp for night hiking, I did more stumbling than hiking on the way back.

The wildflowers were really impressive. With all the rain we’ve had this summer, it’s a great time to enjoy the backcountry  if you get a chance.

Sunset from (very almost) the top of Mount Raymond

Matt on the top.

Wildflowers lit by my headlamp. I want to take my lights into the backcountry one night and see what kind of pictures I can get with some creative lighting.

First!

tap-tap-tap…. is this thing on?

This year has been a whirlwind. I decided to build my business in a different market, so I left LA behind and moved to Salt Lake City. I’m working for Apple again as a Genius at the local Apple Store while my new business is in the beginning stages. And the most radical girl in Salt Lake City  agreed to marry me at the end of August. We’ve hired our good friend Karen Rusten to take our wedding pictures. I’m looking forward to being on the other end of the camera this time. I’m also excited to finally have a website to show off and a new blog to update regularly. (Thanks Brett and KJ!!) I don’t have very many shoots booked right now since preparing for my own wedding is taking the bulk of my time. (who knew?) But once I’m settled, I’ll post all my exploits here.

It’s a photo blog. So, pictures:
